BenQ is releasing its first laser projector designed specifically for use with golf simulators—the LK936ST. The burgeoning golf projector market comes with its own set of difficulties—namely ambient light, resolution needs and color accuracy for realism, and projector positioning and picture adjustment to avoid golf club swings. BenQ addresses these and includes a specific golf picture mode.
The LK936ST, which we awarded Best of Show honors for InfoComm 2021, is a 4K projector rated for 5,100 ANSI lumens and a 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It uses a blue laser with phosphor light engine that is guaranteed to last for 20,000 hours (30,000 hours in Eco) with no maintenance necessary, and powers up and off quickly. The optical engine is sealed, filterless, and IPX5 rated to keep it clean from any dust that might be present in the install location—very often a garage or basement. In addition to the high brightness of the LK936ST to combat ambient light, the projector covers 92% of the Rec.709 color gamut, supports HDR10, and includes a golf mode button that enhances the colors found most on the golf course—blue skies and green grass.
A 0.81-0.89:1 short throw ratio and 1.1x zoom allows the LK936ST to project a 10-foot tall image from 14.5 feet and is capable of a 300-inch diagonal—or just over 14 feet high (to check throw distance you can use the ProjectorCentral BenQ LK936ST Throw Distance Calculator). To make sure the projected image properly fits the screen, the LK936ST includes a digital image shrink, vertical and horizontal keystone correction, four-point corner correction, and an optical lens shift of 60% of the height and 23% of the width.
