SubscribeThe free firmware upgrade JVC originally announced at CEDIA alongside its D-ILA 25th anniversary commemorative projector, the DLA-25LTD, is now available. It covers all current D-ILA projectors, which includes the DLA-NZ9/DLA-RS4100, DLA-NZ8/DLA-RS3100, DLA-NZ7/DLA-RS2100, and DLA-NP5/DLA-RS1100. The firmware is listed as Version 2.00 and targets HDR, laser control, and display modes.
The firmware includes more adjustments for Frame Adapt HDR. A new Auto (Wide) mode joins the existing Auto mode in the HDR Quantizer setting, which places more emphasis on picture brightness. The update adds two more picture modes to Frame Adapt HDR allowing for three different memory settings which are fine-tuned for different room and ambient light conditions.
Current-generation laser projectors—all models listed above except the lamp-based DLA-NP5/DLA-RS1100—get a new dynamic control. It changes the previous dynamic control focus of average luminance to basing the new adjustment on peak luminance. This results in an increase of dynamic range over the previous dynamic laser control no matter the scene's peak luminance.
Filmmaker Mode—the picture mode championed by creatives including Martin Scorsese and developed by the collaboration of studios, directors, content distributors, and consumer electronics and device manufacturers known as the UHD Alliance—is also added to D-ILA projectors. The picture mode automatically turns off picture adjustments like frame interpolation and noise reduction, and sets color temperature to the industry-standard D65.
The firmware upgrade also includes an updated list of the latest top domestic and overseas screens for Screen Adjustment mode.

The update is available here, and new calibration software is also available in addition to the new screen codes. As a note, the new firmware is intended for those currently with firmware Ver.1.24 or earlier. Updating the firmware is non-reversible and will reset the projector to factory defaults.
I noticed "Frame Adapt HDR 1, Frame Adapt HDR 2, and Frame Adapt HDR 3". Understanding that they are tailored for different lighting conditions, can you tell me which is suited for the darker room conditions, and which is for lighter ones?
