Except for color, all models in the new Panasonic PT-VMZ71 Series look identical.

Panasonic has announced the upcoming release of a new series of 3LCD SOLID SHINE laser projectors, each featuring 0.64-inch LCD panels, and ranging in light output from 5,200 to 7,000 ISO21118 lumens—making them a good choice for situations with some ambient light, such as classrooms or conference rooms. The PT-VMZ71 Series consists of the 7,000-lumen VMZ71, the 6,200-lumen VMZ61 and VMW61, and the VMZ51, VMZ51S, and VMW51 that output 5,200 lumens. All six projectors have a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. The projectors are rated to last 20,000 hours in normal lamp mode (24,000 hours in Eco) without maintenance.

The PT-VMZ71 Series projectors all have a 16:10 aspect ratio—VMZ models of the series have a native WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution, while the VMW61 and VMW51 are WXGA (1280x800). All models support 4K/30 input, have a 1.6x zoom, and a 1.09-1.77:1 throw ratio. They have a +44% vertical and ±20% horizontal lens shift. A six-point screen correction feature allows the image to be perfectly lined up.

The VMZ71 and VMZ61 are also available in black.

All projectors have two HDMI in that are CEC-compatible, and all but the VMZ51S have an HDBaseT input. The optional AJ-WM50 USB dongle is available to add Wi-Fi functionality to the Series.

The PT-VMZ71 Series projectors measure 4.53 x 15.71 x 13.7 inches (HWD), with the 7,000-lumen VMZ71 weighing 15.9 pounds (making it the lightest in its class), the 6,200-lumen VMZ61 and VMW61 weighing 15.2 pounds, and the 5,200-lumen VMZ51, VMZ51S, and VMW51 weighing 14.3 pounds.

The PT-VMZ71 Series will be available in April 2022 and will replace the current PT-VMZ60 Series. All models are available in white, while the VMZ71 and VMZ61 are also available in black. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

What's different from the last generation?

We haven't done a detailed analysis, but if you check the specs you should find the size and weight have gone down for the same lumen counts.

Small, lighter, and slightly quieter. Uses less power and can accept 4K input.
